TYPES OF LATHE
A general classification of most of the lathe used today may be done as follows:
1. Speed lathes:
(i) Centring lathe. (ii) Wood working lathe
(iii) Spinning lathe, etc. (iv) Polishing lathe
2. Engine Lathes or Centre Lathes
(i) Step-cone pulley drive from line shaft
(ii) Step-cone pulley drive from individual motor
(iii) Gear-head drive
(iv) Variable speed drive.
3. Bench lathe.
4. Tool room lathe.
5. Capstan and turret lathes
6. Special purpose lathes
(i) Wheel turning lathes.
(ii)Crankshaft lathe
(iii) Duplicating lathe.
(iv) Gap bed lathe
(v) Multicut lathe, etc.
7. Automatic lathes
