Heat Engine
Heat engine may be a first cause which converts energy of fuel into mechanical
energy. The energy so.obtained could also be usedto drive an alternator to supply
electricity or it's going to be wont to drive an automobile or it's going to be used for the other
useful purpose. The energy of the fuel springs from combustion of fuel.
Heat engines are broadly classified as
Internal Combustion engines (I.C. engines)
External Combustion engines (E.C. engines)
Internal Combustion Engine
The heat engine during which the combustion of fuel (liquid or gas) takes place inside the engine cy!inder is understood as IC engine. For example-Petrol engines, Diesel engines, CNG engines etc. These also are called I.C. engines.
External Combustion Engines
The heat engine during which the combustion of fuel takes place outside the engine cylinder, is known as external combustion engine. For example-Steam engines, steam turbines, gas turbines etc.
